what is a postnatal doula?
Becoming a parent is one of life’s most profound transitions. It is beautiful, powerful, and often overwhelming. A postnatal doula is there to walk alongside you through this tender time — offering the calm, practical, and emotional support that every new family deserves.
A postnatal doula provides care in the weeks and months after birth, supporting you as you adjust to life with your baby. My role is not to tell you how to parent, but to support you in finding your own way — gently, intuitively, and without judgement.
A Postnatal doula can help with…
Practical support
Gentle newborn care (so you can rest, shower, or eat)
Light household tasks (tidying, folding laundry, food prep)
Holding space for rest and nourishment
Setting up your space for feeding or sleep
Caring for older children (where appropriate and by agreement)
EMOTIONAL support
A calm, listening presence — no judgment, no fixing
Space to share your birth story or anything that’s arising
Validation of your emotions and lived experience
Gentle encouragement and reassurance
Helping you find rhythm and confidence in your new role
INFORMATION support
Feeding guidance — breast, bottle, or combination
Understanding newborn cues and behaviours
Signposting to local specialists and services
Exploring safe babywearing, sleep, and soothing techniques
Helping partners feel confident and involved

Every family’s needs are unique, but my care is always rooted in gentleness and balance. Examples of the ways I can support you include:
Preparing warm, comforting meals so you don’t have to worry about cooking
Sitting with you during a feed, offering reassurance and practical tips
Watching the baby while you take a shower or rest
Creating a calm atmosphere in your home by tidying, folding laundry, or making tea
Holding space for your emotions — whether you need a cry, a laugh, or simply quiet company
Offering suggestions for easing colic, soothing techniques, or sibling adjustment
why use a postnatal doula?
In many cultures, mothers and birthing people are surrounded by a village of support in the fourth trimester. Here in the UK, that village can feel harder to find. A postnatal doula helps fill that gap — creating a safe, nurturing presence in your home so you feel rested and cared for, confident in your instincts and less alone in the ups and downs of new parenthood
